Getting the best Charleston rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Cozy 1-bedroom Guesthouse with WiFi/AC near Downtown Charleston has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
