Charleston rental booking tips and tricks:
When to go & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Charleston. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Finding the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Charming family-friendly casita 5 min to downtown, 15 min to beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- If there's a particular Charleston area destination you simply love, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
