Tips to get the optimal Charleston area vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Charleston. To find the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking yourrental home:
- Choose your vacation week and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Charming family-friendly casita 5 min to downtown, 15 min to beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
