Rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to pick the best vacation home in Charleston:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Only 2 Blocks to King! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
