Tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking the rightrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Cottage in Wagener Terrace; walk to Lowndes Grove has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
