Rental home tips:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. The Ashley Carriage House Suite Includes Breakfast has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. message the property manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
