How to get the best Charleston area rental experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Bright and Spacious Downtown Condo has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Call the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
