Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- To start, have your family select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Boutique Home & Resort Pool ‘Tuckertown’ has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
