Tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Book your Charleston area rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the best vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Boutique Hotel Home w/ Pool 'Tucker Town' has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If not, contact the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
