How to find the best Charleston vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the best rental home:
- To start, have your family select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Boutique Hotel Home w/ Pool 'Tucker Town' has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
