How to find the best Charleston area rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summertime is high season in Isle of Palms. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanfront Villa in Wild Dunes w\/2 Master Suites & Community Pool! Great Views! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
