Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting the best rental:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. New Listing! Coastal Retreat, Firepit, Near Marina & Beach - 28 Sand Dollar has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

More considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
