Tips to get the perfect rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the largest rental within budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Charleston area vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. New Listing! Coastal Retreat, Firepit, Near Marina & Beach - 28 Sand Dollar has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
