Tips for getting the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Bluegreen's Lodge Alley Inn: Historic Charm, Modern Comfort, Top Location-Studio has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
