Strategies to get the best Charleston area rental experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in Isle of Palms. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautiful Oceanfront Home on Quiet Street! Community Pool/Tennis & Private Hot Tub! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are enamored with, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
