Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Close to King Street 4 Bedroom - Charleston Charm! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your contract.
Have a great stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
