How to book the best Charleston vacation home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best value, shift your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking yourrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Perfect 30 Day Escape! ~ My Getaway Home has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
