Tips for getting the best rental home experience:
Finding the best value:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in Charleston. Booking in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. 2 bed\/ 2 bath! Fenced in yard-close to the beach and dwntn CHS! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
