Rental booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best vacation home in Charleston:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Palmetto Suite at 265 Rutledge has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
