Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your Charleston area rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Selecting the perfect rental:
- Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Vacation Villa 5 mins to King St ‘California Palm’ has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
