Tips to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Stunning 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Have a wonderful stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review.
