Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Studio (2F) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
