Our top Charleston vacation rental tips:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- To get the best rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking your Charleston area rental home:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
- French Quarter, Rooftop, Aesthetic Design has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
