Vacation rental tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Charleston area rental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. St Philip St - Downtown - 3 Bedrooms w/ Parking has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
