Strategies to get the optimal rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
How to choose the perfect vacation home in Charleston:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
