Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Booking in Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
