Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Boutique Home & Resort Pool 'Dewees' has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
