Tips to get the best rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beautifully Restored Downtown Apartment has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

Advice for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
