Our top Charleston vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Downtown Condo 1 Block to King with Private Patio has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
