Booking the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefectvacation home:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown Condo 1 Block to King with Private Patio has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home.
