Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the best vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Iris, Superior Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
