Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Get the best value:
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Serene Escape Over Heated Pool, 1 Block to King St has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your family.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be respectful. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
