Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, selecting, and booking the right Charleston area vacation home:

  • First, have your family agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Romantic Loft Apartment in Historic Downtown with Optional Parking has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
