Tips and Tricks for getting the best vacation rental experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Romantic Loft Apartment in Historic Downtown with Optional Parking has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
