How to get the best vacation property experience:

When to book a Charleston area rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:

  • Choose your vacation week and budget.
  • Location! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
