Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Modern Renovated 2-Condo Combo Near Local Shops has 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
