Tips to get the best rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in Charleston:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Relaxation and Location - The Lowcountry Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
