Our top Rental property booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. To get the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting and booking your Charleston area rental home:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Private Balcony, 2 Living Rooms, 2 Blocks to King! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you crave, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
