- Summer time is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.

Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. Have a great stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
