Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Walk to everything, upper king street area, porch, off-street parking space! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
