Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to book:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to choose the perfect rental home in Charleston:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Historic Home with Designer Touches, Fast WiFi, Enclosed Yard - Great Location has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
