Tips for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Lord Ashley - Sleeps 8! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
