How to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. ‘Sand Swept’ - Downtown Private Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
