Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book a perfect Charleston area vacation home:
- Start by choosing your trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown 3 Bedroom with Tons of Natural Light has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
