Tips and Tricks for getting the best Charleston rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Selecting and booking the rightrental home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Calm & Bright Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
