Tips for getting the best rental home experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Calm & Bright Apartment Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
