Strategies to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- Reserve your Charleston area rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Downtown Condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
