Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Steps to King St Restaurants & Bars
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
