Tricks and tips for getting the best Charleston vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. The Ashley Speakeasy King Suite includes breakfast has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
