Getting the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Book your Charleston area rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Charleston area rental:
- Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Charming studio with 3 pools, kitchenette & central AC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
