Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Charleston’s Folly! - King Suite, Pool, Balcony, Walk to Center St! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Tips for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
