Tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfectrental home:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Stylish 3BR Downtown Escape - Steps to KING ST! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
