Tips to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental:
- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Belle Haven Duplex - Downtown - New Renovation! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
