Our top Rental property booking tips:
Get the most from your budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in Isle of Palms. To get the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing a perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Beautifully Remodeled Modern, Yet Charming Beach Home w\/Ocean Views & Private Pool! Quiet Location! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
