Finding the best vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:
- To start, have your group select the best dates and a spending budget.
- Near Beach + Pools has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
