Strategies to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the best rental in the Charleston area area:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Beautiful Oceanfront Home on Sullivan's Island w\/5Bd\/4Ba has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
