Tricks and tips for getting the best Isle of Palms rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Multiple Balconies! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your contract.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
