Our top Charleston rental home tips:
Finding your best deal:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to pick the best rental:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Beautifully Designed 4 Bedroom
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
