Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Finding the best value:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, shift your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the perfect vacation home:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Award Winning Renovation w/ Charleston Porches! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
